“Ki” — as she was known to all who came for a visit to my Connecticut home — was born and raised during a time of turmoil due to my work situation. A wonderful friend by the name of Pam Backman took on the “K” litter and they traveled with Pam to all the field trials while she was campaigning Fld Ch/Amat Fld Ch Smokerise Black Doctor. They had the best of care and exposure to the world. Ki — pink girl — was my choice as a keeper, and “Kessler” was the first pick boy who finished. The rest had the most wonderful homes any breeder could wish for. I can not thank Pam Backman enough for her backing in my time of need.

As a youngster, Ki took a Best in Sweeps and was major pointed, but failed to earn her CH title. She learned to hate the ring — perhaps because I kept waiting for coat to grow, which never came. She was a very good mover but I failed her as a handler — I should have kept going, coat or not. She was the best housedog anyone could ever own, and she took over where Bart left off.
